Pet Ultrasounds

What is an Ultrasound?

An ultrasound examination is a noninvasive imaging procedure that allows internal body structures to be seen by recording echoes or reflections of ultrasonic waves. Contrasting x-rays,  ultrasound waves are considered to be harmless.

Town & Country West is very proud to have Dr. Tamara Eck to provide this service. Dr. Tamara Eck graduated from the University of Wisconsin-Madison's School of Veterinary Medicine with the intent of pursuing a career in zoo and wildlife animal medicine. She went to Chicago where she specialized in feline medicine. Excessive metal in her leg caused her to give up her zoo career goals and seek a warmer climate. Dr. Eck moved to Fayetteville, NC and became proficient at ultrasound in general practice. The opportunity arose for her to become the professional services veterinarian for a veterinary imaging company in Kennesaw, GA. Her favorite duty as a professional services veterinarian was teaching ultrasound courses for fellow practitioners. Dr. Eck offered a mobile ultrasound service and provided onsite training before joining Town & Country Veterinary Clinic and later Town & Country West Veterinary Clinic. Cardiology is her area of interest. She lives with her cats Sebastian and Swarovski in Dallas, GA. Dr. Eck loves the outdoors and particularly enjoys fishing from her kayak.

What are the Benefits of Ultrasounds?
  • Ultrasounds are painless and do not require, injections, needles or incisions.

  • Patients aren't exposed to ionizing radiation, making the procedure harmless than diagnostic techniques such as CT scans and X-rays. In fact, there are no known harmful effects when used as directed by your health care provider.

  • Ultrasound captures images of soft tissues that don't show up well on X-rays.

  • Ultrasounds are widely accessible and more affordable than other methods.
